About the show:
Between spectacle and meditation, Show On Earth is an intercultural shadowplay for Balinese gendèr wayang – a style of gamelan (traditional ensemble music of the Javanese, Sundanese, and Balinese peoples of Indonesia, made up predominantly of percussive instruments) required for wayang (shadow puppet theatre).
The show will feature music performed by various traditional Gamelan instruments such as the gendèr, suling, and gong, along with non-traditional instruments such as cello, viola, and violin. The music is set to interactive projections and shadow puppetry, all telling a tale based on the evolution of life on Earth.
During the show a dalang (shadow puppeteer) will provide action, dialogue, commentary, song, and incantations interwoven with the music and theatrics.
